The Department of Traditional Pharmacy at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences was established in 2012 and currently operates with two full-time faculty members. The group provides educational units to traditional pharmacy and traditional medicine assistants, Ph.D. pharmacy students, professional doctoral degree students, and master's students in history of medicine as part of its educational activities. The group's research activities, in the form of presenting student dissertations and research projects, are being carried out with the following priorities:

• Acquaintance with fundamental principles of traditional pharmacy and updating terminology and vocabulary in relevant literature
• Reviewing traditional pharmacy resources to identify, review, and correct related texts and books
• Evaluating and conducting clinical studies on pharmaceutical formulations used in traditional medicine
• Optimization of pharmaceutical formulations used in traditional medicine with modern pharmacy tools and drug delivery systems.
• Qualitative, quantitative, and microbial control of herbal medicines based on traditional formulations
• Investigation of the effects of medicinal plants in the fields of antioxidants, cytotoxicity, antibacterial properties, and...
• Extraction and identification of compounds and active ingredients from various medicinal plants, with a focus on native plants of the province.
• Reviving, improving, and integrating traditional medicines into the country's health system
